OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital Race For A Reason (Tri/Du, Mud Run, 5k Run, 3k Walk)
April 25, 2015

Tri/Du, Mud Run, 5k Run, 3k Walk Athens, Ohio

The OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital is teaming up with the Ohio University Sports Administration Program and Athletes in Action to host the 4th annual OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital Race For a Reason on April 25th. Last year 1,050 people participated in one of the four events and the race raised a total of over $115,000 for the 107 charities, non-profits, and student organizations that used the race to help meet their fund raising goals. Each participant is encouraged to "race for his or her own reason" by raising funds through pledges. This year our goal is to raise $125,000 and host over 1,250 race participants. With OHIO student organizations, clubs, fraternities, sororities and additional community organizations involved, it will be possible to increase awareness for a variety of "reasons" with personal meaning to members of the Athens community. This event is the only one of its kind, as it combines the competition of racing with the compassion of community awareness. No other event in Athens has four individual races working simultaneously to promote philanthropy, health and wellness, and fun.

The OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital Race For a Reason offers four distinct events:

Athletes in Action Triathlon & Duathlon presented by the College of Health Sciences and Professions: A short sprint format (Triathlon: 500 meter Swim, 25k Bike, 5k Run: Duathlon 5k-Run, 25k-Bike, 5k-Run) that begins at the Ohio University Aquatic Center for the triathlon and in the transition area for the Duathlon. The bike route takes competitors out of town on a challenging course before returning to campus to complete a 5k run with a finish at Peden Stadium. Participants can choose to race alone, or team up with friends, family, or co-workers and enter as a three-person relay.

35th OU HCOM Medicine Run 5K presented by Quidel: A traditional 5K run that will start adjacent to the triathlon transition area in Parking Lot #133, right in front of the new Walter Field House. This course winds through scenic Ohio University campus before intersecting with the Hocking Adena Bikeway. Competitors will enjoy views of the Hocking River and Ohio University Golf Course before finishing in the end zone of Peden Stadium. Park in Lot #132 next to Peden Stadium or near the Ohio University Convocation Center.

ROCKY Military Mud Run powered by OU ROTC: A 4 mile non-traditional run starts and finishes in Peden Stadium. Runners will cross the Hocking River over the Richland Avenue Bridge, pass through the Richland Avenue Park, and travel down Diary Barn Lane before heading up to the ROTC Challenge course in the Ridges. Competitors will encounter obstacles throughout the course before heading down to a slip-n-slide finish line.

AMVETS Diabetes 3K Walk presented by Humana: A traditional 3K walk that will start and finish in Peden Stadium. This course winds along the scenic Hocking Adena Bikeway toward OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital before turning around to finish with all the other races.
