Race Director's Corner

Bring on Spring!

For those of us living in the Midwest, the wait for Spring can be tough and this year our winter has been very tough to deal with as a multisport participant.  So far I've spent every Saturday indoors with my Computrainer hammering away the boring miles with my trusty sidekick Todd Ricketts.

To keep from losing our minds we created some unique workouts to keep it fun and interesting.  Our favorite has been to pick a tough olympic distance course (Columbia and Orange County are favorites) and hammer it at race pace BUT jump off every 15 minutes and run 15 minutes on the treadmill.  The treadmill time is 5 minutes at our base pace with the final 10 minutes building every 30 seconds to our race pace.  This workout adds up to about 2 hours and 20 minutes with a warm-up and cool-down. Anyone with any Computrainer experience know that spending an hour of hard riding on the Computrainer is equivalent to about 90 minutes outdoors.  There is NO coasting when you're on a Computrainer.

There is light at the end of the tunnel as our Team HFP training camp in Helen, GA is less than five weeks away.  Hopefully we'll get a break in the weather before then so I can at least ride outside before the camp - if not it will make the camp even more sweet when we get to the White Mountains in Helen.

Bring it!
